September is set to see various locations in Memphis hosting local and nationally-known musicians. Throughout the month, the Levitt Shell, the Memphis Botanic Garden and the Mud Island Amphitheater will host concert series featuring a wide variety of artists. Smaller venues have also prepared some dates worth saving.
See the Levitt Shell concert series from Sept. 7 to 31Â
The Levitt Shell, located at 1928 Poplar Ave. in Midtown, hosts 50 free concerts throughout the year. Through September, many different musicians will take the stage. Artists like southern rock and blues band North Mississippi Allstars (Sept. 7), R&B singer Lady Wray, (Sept. 8), Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter Alex Cuba (Sept. 14) and local soul band Southern Avenue (Sept. 21) are set to perform. Each concert lasts from 7Â to 8:30 p.m. The concerts are free, and lawn seating is available on a first come, first served basis.Â
Anne Pitts, Levitt Shell executive director, said the fall concert series contains 25 free concerts with a “wide range of artists.â€Â
“All the concerts are family friendly and high quality entertainment,†Pitts said.
See some local bands at Growlers on Sept. 5
XVII Trill, a local experimental hip-hop group, is joining The Ellie Badge and touring band Shark Jackson at Growlers (1911 Poplar Ave.) on Tuesday night. The show is free, but only those who are 21 and up are permitted. Â
See Little Big Town and Steve Miller Band at the Memphis Botanic Garden
The Memphis Botanic Garden, located at 750 Cherry Road, hosts thier annual “Live at the Garden†concert series that starts in June and showcases many nationally-known artists.
The series will end in September with award-winning country band Little Big Town as well as Californian rock band Steve Miller Band.
Little Big Town was originally set to perform on June 23, but due to Tropical Storm Cindy, the band will perform Sept. 8.Â

The Mud Island Amphitheater, located at 125 North Front Street, will feature Grammy-winning Christian rock band  NEEDTOBREATHE with special guests American singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw and Tennessee rock n’ roll and blues band The New Respects on Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $39.50 to $49.50 plus service charges. Reserved seating is available regardless of the weather.
Every $1 per ticket sold will go to “OneWorld Health,†an organization that provides healthcare to communities in need.
Then on Sept. 22, Grammy-nominated American folk rock band The Avett Brothers will perform at 8 p.m. General admission costs $45.50 plus service fees and reserved seating will be $59.50.

Looking ahead: the Mempho Music Festival takes place Oct. 6 and Oct. 7 at Shelby Farms Park.
Grammy-winning rock band Cage the Elephant, indie-pop act Cold War Kids and rapper Anderson .Paak are a few names on the Mempho Music Fest bill.
The festival is the first of its kind with food and music in Shelby Farms Park. Gates open at 5 p.m. on Oct. 6 and at noon on Oct. 7. Other artists set to perform include The Weeks, Dan Luke & The Rad, Jason Isbell & the 400 unit, Bishop Briggs and locals Southern Avenue.
