The University of Memphis Department of Theatre & Dance opens its production of the musical Chicago tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Edward and Bernice Humphreys Theatre Building.
The show runs through Sunday, with additional performances Nov. 21-22 at 7:30 p.m. and daytime performances on Nov. 22-23 at 2 p.m.
The story of the musical is set in the Jazz Age and follows Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer who kills her lover. It also follows Velma Kelly, another “merry murderess,” as the two fight for fame, freedom, and notoriety.

Directed by Max Robinson, the staging features the classic score by John Kander and Fred Ebb, with choreography inspired by Bob Fosse. Students, faculty, and staff can claim a free ticket on the department website.
