Students respond to ‘Bluff City Bash’ headliner announcement

After the release of “Issa Album” and “Without Warning,” rap artist 21 Savage has become something of a hot commodity in the rap community. Now the up-and-coming artist will headline the University of Memphis’ “Bluff City Bash” on Friday, as announced by the Student Activities Council (SAC) at the end of last week.

The concert will be at the Alumni Mall Lawn on Friday and will be free for all University of Memphis students. Tickets can be picked up at the Rose Theatre ticket window on Friday, according to SAC’s Twitter page. Students must bring their student IDs to receive a free wristband for the show. Non-students must bring their state ID along with an Eventbrite receipt (details for Eventbrite receipt can be found on tinyurl.com/SACBCB).

Jacob Vogelsang, a sophomore theatre major at the U of M, said he could not wait to see 21 Savage on Friday.

“I’ve never been to the ‘Bluff City Bash’ before, but I’m very excited to go on Friday,” Vogelsang said.  “21 Savage is probably my favorite rapper right now, and I can’t wait to see him in person.”

Marisa Hernandez, a senior in the U of M marching band, said she attends the “Bluff City Bash” every year.

“The ‘Bluff City Bash’ is one of my favorite events, and I’m always excited to see what artist is announced,” Hernandez said.  “I think 21 Savage will be the best performance yet, and I can’t wait to see how many people come.”

Tyreek Jackson, a freshman engineering major at the U of M, said he has been following 21 Savage since the beginning of the rapper’s career.

“I’ve been a huge 21 Savage fan for years now but have never gotten to see him in person,” Jackson said. “I can probably sing every lyric to most of his songs, so Friday night should be fun.”
