In the finale of the Cayman Islands Classic, Memphis women's basketball looked to end its trip to paradise on a high note against the St. John's Red Storm. The Tigers ultimately fell short despite another great showing against a power-conference opponent and lost 84-73.
The game was decided by the offenses of both squads. Memphis had a solid outing on that side of the ball, finishing with four players in double-digits and shot 43% from the field, led by senior guard Chaé Harris. The Red Storm, on the other hand, had an elite offensive performance. Despite a full court press by the Tigers resulting in 21 turnovers, St. John's shot 60% from the field and 44% from three.
It was a similar situation as the previous day's game against Florida; the Tigers were always playing from behind and kept things interesting for 40 minutes but were never able to pull away and steal a win. Even though Memphis lost both games of this event, the amount of resolve shown in both outings provides room for optimism about the rest of the season.
Memphis will look to get back in the win column when it travels to Murfreesboro to battle the MTSU Blue Raiders at 1 p.m. on Dec 7.
