The University of Memphis Student Government Association met for the final time this semester Thursday afternoon in the University Center Senate Chamber.

Other than minor changes to SGA’s bylaws, only one bill was put on the floor and passed. This bill motioned to recommend the U of M change its grading scale to add an “A+.”

With its current grading scale, there is no true “A+” students can receive in classes. A 4.00 is an “A,” 3.84 is an “A-,” 3.33 is a “B+” and 3.00 is a “B.” The proposed bill would change the scale to where a 4.33 would be an “A+,” 4.00 would be an “A,” 3.67 would be an “A-,” then the scale would go back to the numbers it is currently.

Because the bill was passed by SGA, it will go to administration to approve and put in place.

Garrett Barnes, SGA chief clerk and primary sponsor of the bill, said if administration could not implement the new scale, a new bill with changes would go back to SGA next semester.
