Black Student Association awards quickly approaching

The Black Students Association has teamed up to host its 13th annual Mahogany Ball Freedom Awards on February 19, in the University Center Ballroom at 7p.m.

The black tie event will honor influential leaders in the community and will give out awards to alumni, faculty members, student organizations and members of the National Pan-Hellenic Greek Council.

Four awards will be given in categories of religion, education, community service and young alumni.

The Mahogany Ball categories will include best NPHC Greek organization, artistic expression, presidential leadership and community service for both individuals and organization.

There is also a “Mr. and Mrs. Mahogany,” which will be awarded to two graduating seniors who have demonstrated great campus involvement and out-

standing academics. Raven Lewis, coordinator of the event, likes how the ball collectively brings the community together.

“The purpose of the whole event is to shed light on the people who are doing great things for the city of Memphis,” Lewis said. “It is a free event, and we ask everyone to come out and help us honor the recipients.”

At least 14 awards will be given out between the two ceremonies.
