MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Memphis Tigers women’s basketball team (4-6) suffered a loss to the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (4-5), 60-51, on Sunday afternoon at the Murphy Center.
Middle Tennessee jumped out to a 7-0 start in the first quarter after multiple turnovers committed by the Tigers. The Blue Raiders would remain in clear control of the game and led by as much as 11 after a free throw from Blair Baugus, before finishing the first quarter leading 20-11.
Daejah Richmond started the second quarter strong with two jumpers that cut the lead to five, but Middle Tennessee responded quickly with a 5-0 run that pushed their lead back to 10. The Tigers reduced the lead to seven, going into the half down 29-22.
An 8-0 run from Jordan Hunter helped Memphis trim the lead to one to begin the third quarter. The Blue Raiders remained poised in spite of the flurry from the Tigers and stretched their lead back to eleven, with Blair Baugus scoring eight points from the free throw line in the third quarter. Middle Tennessee would go on to end the third quarter 45-36.
The Blue Raiders started the fourth quarter in dominant fashion, leading by as much as 14 after a layup from Blair Bagus of Middle Tennessee. The Tigers fought back late in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to five, following ajumper from Chae Harris, but Middle Tennessee remained resilient and went on to win 60-51.
The Tigers will go on the road to face Murray State on Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
