UofM Partners with the Annex Group to Develop New Dorms

As waitlisting for student housing continues to be an issue, the University of Memphis is laying out a plan to expand housing services, primarily through new apartment-style student housing on the Park Avenue campus. The expansion is expected to be completed by the fall of 2026.

The new housing development is part of a partnership between the University of Memphis and The Annex Group, an organization specializing in building housing communities at universities nationwide. Both students and student-athletes will be able to utilize the new services as the project comes to fruition. In a press release from last November, University of Memphis President Bill Hardgrave emphasized the benefits that student-athletes will receive through the new housing being in the same location as their training areas.

“The upcoming housing development on our Park Avenue campus will give our student-athletes a significant competitive enhancement to live where they train,” said Hardgrave. “This first-class facility will help tremendously in recruiting for our athletic programs and assist in building a sense of community across our university with student-athletes living alongside others in our student population.”

“The Annex Group is honored to be a part of this transformative project and continue our long-term partnership with the University in support of their student-athletes,” said Kyle Bach, the CEO of the Annex Group. “We will bring to this project the same quality and experience that students and student-athletes have come to expect at The Annex of Memphis and all our other properties across the country.”

The project consists of four-bedroom, two-bedroom and studio-style units, as well as spaces for studying, social gatherings and outdoor living. In addition, nearly 300 parking spaces will be available in a secure gated area, heightening the importance of safety in this project.

Brian Rock, the director of Housing and Residence Memphis, said, “Certain specifics are not available currently with the project still in the development and design phase.”
