The University of Memphis' club rugby team's season ended Sunday afternoon when they lost 50-43 to UNC-Wilmington in the elite 8.
As a Division II rugby program, the team raised $2,500 on GoFundMe to fund their travel expenses to the Division II tournament.
Memphis won the D II Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference Championship to get an automatic bid to the sweet 16 of the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) South Region playoffs, where they beat Coastal Carolina 39-38 on Friday to advance to the elite 8.
The rugby team will return to action in the spring semester for their spring schedule. More information on the team can be found on their website, https://tigerrugby.org/
