LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fl. – No. 3 Memphis women’s soccer started its quest for a fifth American Conference championship on Monday with a 1-0 win against the ECU Pirates, who bested the Tigers in last year’s conference title match.

It was a very defensive affair, but the Tigers just kept knocking. Shot after shot, possession after possession.

The lone goal came in the 87th minute when Ashley Henderson headed a corner from Ai Kitagawa for the former’s tenth goal of the season.

With this win, Memphis moves to 16-0-2 on the year and advances to the semifinals of the conference tournament, where it will face five-seed UTSA on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
