Volleyball drops 4th straight

Memphis Volleyball lost 3-0 to Rice on Sunday, dropping to an even 9-9 record and 1-3 in conference games.  

In the first set, Rice jumped out to a 9-3 lead and didn’t look back. Memphis lost the first set 25-13. The second set was much closer. Memphis started with a 3-0 lead and even led 9-3 at one point. After this, things fell apart for the Tigers, with Rice going on an 8-0 run to take the lead 11-9. It was back and forth and tied at 20-20 but Rice went on another run and won the set 25-21. 

In the third set, Rice led 4-0 then 11-3. Memphis fought back after this, making the score 17-12 but it was too little too late. Rice ended up winning the third set 25-16, and swept the game, 3-0. Despite the loss, Memphis freshman Riley McCloskey had a standout game with 10.5 points and 10 kills. Janyah Henderson also played well with 8.5 points and 6 kills.  

Memphis Volleyball ends their homestand and gets a few days off with their next game not coming until Friday. They’ll look to get back on track at Wichita State on Friday at 7 p.m., streamed on ESPN Plus.
