The University of Memphis chapter of Turning Point USA has confirmed that Riley Gaines, an activist known for her opposition to transgender inclusion in women’s sports, will speak on campus next month.
The event is scheduled for Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. in the University Center Theatre. Admission is free, and those interested are asked to direct message the organization on Instagram for tickets. Gaines has not yet promoted the event on her personal social media accounts.
According to the event listing on TigerZone, Gaines will speak about “the importance of gender norms” and what TPUSA describes as “keeping women’s spaces safe, most specifically women’s sports.”
Gaines rose to national prominence after tying for fifth place with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas in an NCAA championship race. Since then, she has become an advocate against allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports and for maintaining traditional gender roles.
