Memphis volleyball lost to North Texas 3-1 on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
Jasmyn Tate was Memphis’s only senior, and the team celebrated her after the game.
“Coming back to Memphis for her last season, we love her," Memphis head coach Cheri Linsday said. "I’m super proud of her, she’s great.”
Memphis started the first set with a huge lead, 14-4, carrying over momentum from their two sets they won against Tulsa. They went on to win the set 25-17.
After that, things went downhill for the Tigers. North Texas bounced back and won the second set 25-20, before easily winning the third set 25-15.
Memphis jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the fourth set, but the point was challenged by North Texas and got overturned, changing the score to 4-3. This swung momentum, and the Tigers never got it back.
Memphis lost the set 25-17 and lost the game.
Despite the loss, Zaniah Hoskins and Janyah Henderson both had good performances. Hoskins had 14 kills and 16.5 points while Henderson had 12 kills and 14.5 points.
Memphis fell to 10-13 on the season and 1-7 in conference play, losing their seventh conference game in a row. Their next game will be at home against Florida Atlantic at 7 p.m. on Friday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
