Memphis volleyball fell to 9-8 after a loss in straight sets Friday against UTSA (9-5), to increase its home losing streak to 3.

UTSA kept starting the set fast and established leads early, and even when the scoring would pick up for Memphis, they struggled to break a 4–5-point deficit past the first half of each set. Memphis struggled particularly with the second point; UTSA started the first set 9-1 and the second set 7-1, the third was a better start but still 10-5 through the first fifteen points. The Tigers lost in straight sets (25-16,25-17,25-13).

Setting up kills consistently became a problem with the Tigers putting up 9 kills a set, 3.7 lower than their season average to that point. Amanda Hardt, two-time American player of the week and kill leader at 4.86 kills per set is still sidelined with an injury, but Za’niya Boyles’ game has taken a step in her absence leading the team tonight in kills and points at 8 kills and 9.5 points, followed by Janyah Henderson with 8 kills and Jasmyn Tate with 5 kills.

Now at 1-2 in the American, the Tigers look to get back to .500 against Rice at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Sunday. The game will be at 1 p.m. and streamed on ESPN+.
