Memphis football coach Silverfield spoke at a press conference on Monday about the win over Tulsa and gave a look ahead to the rest of the season.
Memphis has already clinched a bowl game and landed 23rd in this week’s AP Poll.
The Tigers have a bye week coming up, and Coach Silverfield spoke on the importance of the live reps some players got in the blowout win over Tulsa, as well as reps coming up with an extra week off.
“We’re gonna use this bye week and we’re gonna get a lot of guys that have played maybe less than 15 percent of the snaps, they’re gonna get more work,” Silverfield said.
Despite the great 6-0 start to the season, Coach Silverfield emphasized things the team still needs to work on. The main focus was ball security, which has been a problem in recent games. Coach Silverfield also talked about doing the little things right in all facets of the game.
“The record, 6-0, that’s great, but there’s still a million things that we can improve upon,” Silverfield said.
Coach Silverfield answered excitedly to a question about the all-in attitude that he has instilled in his team and that the city has joined in on. He went through his ALL-IN acronym and explained what each letter meant. He was grateful for the fans and city for supporting the team.
“The city, the community, pouring into our guys that love that they show, the great fans that showed up Saturday night, that’s true love,” Silverfield said, discussing the second L in the acronym.
Coach Silverfield also discussed the appearance in the AP Poll’s top 25 and what that does for recruiting as well as the football team, the university and the city.
“Whether it’s a recruit whether it’s a fan, it’s great for the university, because all they’re seeing is University of Memphis top 25,” Silverfield said.
The Tigers are on a bye week this week but will continue action next Saturday on the road against UAB. The game will be at 3 p.m. on ESPN2.
