The University of Memphis Volleyball team jumped to 5-2 following a 3-1 win over Chattanooga in the first game of the Carrie Yerty Classic Thursday at Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
It was a consistent performance for the Tigers in a competitive four set contest, but the kills made the difference. Memphis’ Amanda Hardt drove in thirty-one kills which was good enough to tie for 4th all-time kills in a game and the most since Brittany Barnett had the same amount in a 2002 game against TCU.
Memphis started off slow, losing the first set 26-24. The next set was an intense back-and-forth game and Memphis won it 30-28. They kept this momentum going into the next two sets where they won 27-25 in both.
The Carrie Yerty Classic continues through Saturday, with Memphis playing Lamar Friday at 7p.m. CT and UT Martin on Sunday at 3 p.m. CT and both games are being streamed on ESPN+.
