In the first day of the Crimson Classic, the Memphis Tigers volleyball team (7-4) fell to the Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1) in Foster Auditorium in four sets.
In the first set, the Crimson Tide started off on a 7-0 run, before Janayah Henderson recorded the first kill for the Tigers. From that moment on, the Crimson Tide proceeded to go on a 18-7 run and won the first set 25-8. Unlike the first set, the second was a seesaw affair until Maddie Snider recorded a kill to put the Crimson Tide up eight points, with the score being 17-9. Alabama went on to win the second set, 25-19.
In the third set, the Tigers responded to every punch throw their way in a back-and-forth set. With the score tied 25-25, Victoria Barrett committed two straight attack errors, which won the Tigers the third set, 27-25. The fourth and final set was close throughout, with the score being 23-24 after a kill from Janayah Henderson, but Sophie Agee recorded the final kill of the game to give Alabama the win, 25-23.
The Memphis Tigers will face off against UCF in their final game of the Crimson Classic Friday at 4 p.m. in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
