HOUSTON, Tx. - No. 11 Memphis women’s soccer traveled to face No. 25 Rice in a ranked matchup atop the American conference standings, picking up a crucial three points with a 2-0 win.
The Tigers used a barrage of shots and an immense amount of pressure to keep the Owls in their defending half, outshooting the home team 15-7. This is the second time Memphis has beaten a ranked opponent this season, after defeating Vanderbilt at home earlier in the year.
The scoring started when senior Flavie Dubé finished off a gorgeous backheel pass by Ashley Henderson in the 20th minute, which snapped Memphis’ three-game streak of scoreless first halves. Henderson continued her excellent play in this match in the second period when she sneaked a ball past Rice’s keeper in the 58th minute, giving her team the deciding second goal.
The Tigers will be on the road again for their next match against Tulsa at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
