Memphis men's soccer defeated UAB 3-2 on Sunday night in Birmingham to earn their first conference win of the season and improve to 2-4-3, earning their first win in six games.
After Samuel Mutiri and Miller Lashlee scored goals in the first half to help Memphis jump out to a 2-0 lead, the Blazers responded with a penalty kick goal in the 43rd minute by Gustavo Barbosa and a goal by Humphrey Doh in the 60th minute to tie the game up.
What looked like a game Memphis was controlling, was suddenly tied at 2-2. That was until Saad Chaouki was in the right place at the right time, as a Adam Aboohamidi cross ricocheted off of UAB goalkeeper Tom Mabon right into Chaouki’s feet at point blank range to put Memphis up 3-2 in the 84th minute.
The Tigers will return to play at home after a two game road trip on Saturday, where they will look to find another 3 points against Tulsa.
