Men's soccer battles to 1-1 draw at Evansville

The Memphis Tigers men's soccer team salvaged a 1-1 draw against the Evansville Aces Sunday night on the road despite being outshot 24-7.

Memphis defender Michael Holliday conceded a penalty in the 20th minute of the game. Evansville's Martin Wurschmidt converted the penalty against Tigers' goalkeeper Filip Sabatti to give the Aces the lead. The Tigers responded quickly, however, scoring in the 33rd minute to even up the score when Lucho Galizzi found the top right corner of the net.

Head coach Richard Mulrooney's Tigers played bend-don't-break defense in the second half, conceding 13 Evansville shot attempts in the period but 0 goals. Memphis only generated one shot attempt of their own in the final 45 minutes, resulting in the draw.

The Tigers will look to improve on their 1-1-2 start to the season when they return home to the Park Avenue Campus Wednesday night to host FGCU at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
