Men’s golf finishes fourth in season opener

CHOUDRANT, La. – Memphis men’s golf got off to a strong start in their season opening event, placing fourth out of 17 teams in the Argent Financial Classic. 

Led by junior Yixiang Wang, who tied for third in individual play with a 204 (-12), the Tigers finished ahead of every team from their conference in attendance which consisted of Rice, North Texas, UTSA and UAB. Wang matched his career-low for 18 holes in the third round and finished one stroke above his career-low for 54 holes. 

Memphis pulled it off with very efficient play, scoring 55 birdies and a pair of eagles over the course of the three-day event. Here is how the team finished individually: 

T3. Yixiang Wang 204 (-12); 70, 68, 66 

T33. Cian O’Connor 215 (-1); 70, 72, 73 

T33. Christian Morneau 215 (-1); 72, 70, 73 

T52. Diego Lourenco 218 (+2); 73, 75, 70 

T55. Tobey Kim 219 (+3); 75, 72, 72 

The men’s golf squad will look to continue its momentum when they travel to Cincinnati for the Bearcat Invitational on Monday.
