Memphis Madness is moving to Beale Street

The University of Memphis men's and women's basketball teams announced Tuesday afternoon that “Memphis Madness” will take place on Beale St. this year.

The preseason basketball event that has been used to drive fan excitement for the upcoming season will be on Beale St. for the first time. This is taking a new form after it has been on campus the past three years since leaving the FedExForum.

On the court, there will be introductions of the teams, a one-on-one game of T.I.G.E.R. between head coaches Penny Hardaway and Alex Simmons, shooting competitions between student-athletes and fans. There will also be food trucks, t-shirt tosses, live performances by the Mighty Sound of the South, the spirit squads, and DJ Mic Tee and a meet-and-greet and autograph session to close out the event.

The event is free to the public, who are encouraged to wear Tiger blue, and will take place on Oct. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m.
