The University of Memphis’ student-ran record label, BlueTom Records, hosted an Open Mic and Jam Session on Wednesday night in the Harris Hall Music Building. The event was filled with talented musicians from across campus who sought to showcase their performing skills.
One standout performer, Haley Mosenteen, presented her original song, “favorite friend.” The crowd responded by waving their phone flashlights in the air, signaling their admiration.
Amiyah Price, President and A&R chair of BlueTom Records, says the mission statement of their record label “focuses on the curation and elevation of student talent here at the University of Memphis.” Jeffrey Cohran, assistant professor of teaching in Music Business, echoes that sentiment, adding, “We work on marketing music for students, helping them produce music, and helping them pursue their great dreams.”
BlueTom welcomes all students interested in creating music and building careers in the industry. For updates and upcoming events, the team encourages students to follow their Instagram page, @bluetomrecords.
