KENNESAW, Ga. - The No. 24 Memphis women’s soccer team took care of business in their first road game this season, defeating the Kennesaw State Owls, who were playing in their first match of the season, 7-0.
Everything fell into place early for the visitors. Ai Kitagawa started the Tigers’ scoring early with a gorgeous goal in the 11th minute and finished with a pair of goals. Not to be outdone, Ellis Kelly came through with two goals of her own and an assist. The reigning American Conference Freshman of the Week now has four goals and three assists in just three games at the collegiate level.
The play of the night, however, belonged to Taliah Brooks, who flicked in a goal with the back of her foot off a free kick to put the Tigers up 5-0 just before the halftime whistle.
The win marks Memphis' third consecutive season starting 3-0-0. The Tigers’ next game is a part of a double-header with Memphis men’s soccer, meaning that the women’s game will start when the men’s game concludes. Currently, kickoff against No. 11 Vanderbilt is set for 7:30 p.m. CT on Sunday and can be watched on ESPN+.
