#10 Memphis Takes Care of Temple in Home Finale

A showdown to conclude the last home game is truly what the 10th-ranked Memphis Tigers Women's Soccer Team did on Sunday. Memphis defeated Temple 4-0 as they continued their climb to the Conference Tournament in a couple of weeks.

They are now 8-0 in the AAC and 14-1 on the season with their 11th consecutive win. The win makes it a perfect 8-0 home record for the Tigers in the 2023 campaign.

The last time Memphis played Temple was during the 2022 season. Memphis defeated Temple 2-0 with goals from Mya Jones and Haylee Spray.

From the beginning, both teams played to win. The Tigers came out strong keeping possession on the offensive side and made sure Temple was far from their goal.

In the first twelve minutes, Anna Hauer was the first to show any energy with 3 out of the 6 shot attempts.

Coaches had a lot to say from the sidelines shot after shot was being missed. A head injury on a Temple athlete gives the Tigers some time to have a pep talk with their coaches. You could tell the shift in the team after the game resumed.

Nothing on the board for either team at the end of the first half.

Forward Mya Jones said, “Just be patient, it's coming, keep doing your thing, be urgent don't be too slow on the ball and I mean it paid off in the second half with our four goals.”

After a 0-0 first half, Saorla Miller got the ball rolling for Memphis, quickly getting around her defender to put Memphis on the board 1-0 in the 49th minute.

Four minutes later, Honoka Hamano scored the second goal and her second goal of the season assisted by Mya Jones. Hamano returned the favor from way down the field straight to Jones in the 60th minute giving Memphis a 3-0 lead.

In addition, Jones added yet another goal, her second of the game advancing the Tiger's lead to 4-0. The Owls did get a chance on goal but Claire Wyville said not today.

The Tigers put in another strong effort ahead of the AAC Conference Tournament.

Memphis will look forward to their regular season finale versus Tulsa on the road. Kickoff is set for Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
