Memphis Commit Mikey Williams Arrested on Five Charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon

Bad news for the Tigers Men's Basketball program made national headlines Friday morning.

Five-star recruit and Memphis commit Mikey Williams was arrested on five counts of assault with a deadly weapon using a firearm, according to ABC 24 Memphis.

The San Diego Sheriff’s Department confirmed to the media that Williams was arrested after it was reported that an 18-year-old male matching Williams’ description was booked.

The San Diego native was released on $50,000 bail but is set to appear in court on April 20, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

If Williams is convicted, he could face up to more than a year in jail due to California’s strict gun laws.

Williams is the 26th-ranked player in the 2023 class but has been highly touted since the early age of 13. He has one of the highest social media followings with over 10 million followers and a shoe deal with PUMA. The 18-year-old has played along with Bronny James and JJ Taylor, a 2023 Memphis commit.

The University of Memphis and Williams’ spokesperson have yet to comment or release a statement on the situation.

We will continue to update once more information is released.
