Semester hits the endgame as students prep for finals week

The endgame has arrived, and UofM students have begun to scramble for their Infinity Stones (grades) in preparation for their showdown against Thanos (that being final exams).

Every year, during the end of the semester, rather than relaxing and taking it easy before the holidays once again, students buckle down even more into their studies to get their last grades in, and to tackle finals week.

Throughout the university, students of all classifications have begun their last push as they reach the endgame of the fall 2019 semester. Senior Hospitality major Marcus Gooding believes that no matter how the semester goes, the last week of the semester is always the most hectic for not just him, but for arguably every other college student. Gooding said that it is almost a rite of passage of some kind for college students and that it’s part of the overall college experience.

“For me, I think that you haven’t experienced college fully if you aren’t panicking around this time of the semester,” Gooding said. “No matter how the semester goes, whether you were doing great or terrible throughout the weeks, finals week always makes you panic. It just comes with being a college student.”

In a variety of ways, students have begun to cope with the stress that finals week brings.

Some students choose to use any free time to study any material they were missing. Other students go out and try to relax their minds before finals week.

Sophomore Lucas Mason said he handles his finals week stress with working out and running. Mason said that extra activity keeps his mind off his grades and final exams out of class.

“I like to work out and go for small runs during finals week whenever I’m not studying for exams,” Mason said. “It helps keep my mind off the stress of grades and exams, all the while keeping me in shape for the holidays.”
