The University of Memphis track and field teams had another impressive showing at Vanderbilt University at the Music City Challenge on Saturday, one of many record-setting days the Tigers have had on Vanderbilt’s campus.

Sophomore Cera Chavez reset her mark in the women’s 60-meters, breaking a school record she set at the Vanderbilt opener in December. She finished with a time of 7.39 seconds and won the event.

The men’s 4x400-meter relay also had a memorable day, resetting the school record in the event for the third time this indoor season. All three times have taken place at a Vanderbilt meet. The team of Devon DeMoss, Calvin Austin, Ryan Champlin and Jarred Pasley set a school mark with a time of 3:08.46, shedding more than two seconds off the previous record of 3:10.53 set at the Jan. 20 Vanderbilt Invitational. The first 4x400-meter relay record set this season was 3:13.19 at the Vanderbilt opener in December.

Because Saturday’s two school records were re-sets, the Tigers did not set school marks in any new events. However, the Tigers have set seven indoor school records at Vanderbilt meets during the past two seasons. The Tigers also had 11 top-10 performances Saturday.

Several Tigers posted personal best performances at the meet. Among those are junior Nicole Lawson, who set her personal-best in the indoor triple jump with a mark of 40-4.25 (12.30m). Graduate student Aaron Persinger set a personal-best in the men’s 60-meter hurdles. He finished sixth in the events with a time of 8.11 seconds. This comes after winning the men’s 60-meter hurdles title at Southern Illinois last weekend. Senior Arnica Zitting and sophmore Paige Sandwell both set personal bests in the women’s 3000-meters. Sandwell bettered her previous best in the event by 14 seconds.
