Randal Rushing, professor of voice at The University of Memphis for 20 years, has been appointed the new director of the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.
A regular soloist for symphonies and operas, Rushing has served as interim director of the school since 2008, when he took over from Patricia Hoy, who left The U of M. He has also served as associate director of student services at the school since 2000.
Rushing left the U.S. to study his art at the Staatliche Hockschule fuer Musik Rheinland in Koeln, Germany. He became a U of M faculty member in 1990 and has since performed as a soloist in New York's Carnegie Hall; Washington, D.C.'s Lincoln Center; Germany; Switzerland; the Czech Republic and Central America.
