The rerun of the Student Government Association election was shaken up this week as both parties filed additional grievances.
Both grievances claim that members of the opposition party have made libelous or slanderous statements against an individual or institution, a violation of article VI, section 605 of SGA election laws.
University officials declined to elaborate on the content of the grievances.
"Because of the nature of them, Dr. Bingham felt it appropriate to appoint a University committee to review these two grievances," said William Porter, dean of student affairs.
The five-person committee consists of one faculty member, two students and two administrators. According to Porter, the formation of this committee is in accordance with the election laws, which allow the committee to address grievances in lieu of the election commission.
Thursday night, the committee dismissed both grievances, finding both claims did not amount to slander or libel.
The second SGA election ended Thursday at midnight, and Porter has said the results will be released Monday to allow time to handle any grievances that are filed between now and then.
