University of Memphis freshman center Hashim Bailey was charged Wednesday with simple assault/bodily harm, a Class A misdemeanor, in connection with the Oct. 18 incident in West Hall.
In the incident reported first in The Daily Helmsman, two female students accused Bailey and junior forward Joey Dorsey of throwing water at them and threatening them.
At this time no charges have been filed against Dorsey.
After University police investigated the situation, they turned it over to the state court system. A criminal summons was then ordered by a magistrate judge, and Bailey signed it last Thursday.
Bailey was automatically suspended, but it was quickly overturned after he appealed to a three-person University panel.
The summons was used in place of an arrest warrant, and an arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 17.
Campus police could not be reached for comment.
