For the third week in a row, justice has been served.
Brookhaven, one of my personal favorite local establishments, was voted the favorite place to get a drink near campus in this week’s Twitter poll.
After Back Yard Burgers was heinously chosen as the best place to get a burger near campus, the following two weeks saw Ching’s win the best hot wings and Memphis Pizza Café win the best pizza.
With this week’s Brookhaven victory, Helmsman Twitter poll voters have almost redeemed themselves. Almost. Brookhaven, which also has a much better hamburger than Back Yard Burgers, opened in 2002 on Brookhaven Circle near the Clark Tower.
It features a fully stocked bar, including local beers and a delicious pub grub menu featuring the Tiger Bleu Chips – my personal favorite. There is a large patio outside that’s great during warm nights, has heaters for the winter months and plays host to live entertainment on the weekends.
There is also team trivia every Tuesday night. R.P. Tracks, Young Avenue Deli, Fox and Hound, Huey’s, Newby’s, Celtic Crossing and P & H Café were the other seven choices in the Twitter poll. Brookhaven defeated Huey’s in the first round, R.P. Tracks in the second round and Young Avenue Deli, winning 57 percent of the vote, in the championship round.
Naturally, The Daily Helmsman does not in any way advocate for under-age or binge drinking and respects the fact that the University of Memphis is a dry campus. But, if you’re of age looking for a great place to watch a sporting event, hear live music and enjoy some great food, Brookhaven is your place.
With exams right around the corner, next week’s poll, and the final Twitter poll of the semester, will be the best place to study near campus.
