The University of Memphis announced their football game against Ole Miss will take place at 11 a.m. Oct. 17. on Monday.
The game between the two foes will take place at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and will be televised on ABC. Before the Florida Gators beat Ole Miss 38-10 on Saturday, the Rebels were ranked number three in the nation.
As a result, some Tiger fans may be upset about the early kick off, given the game was being considered for ESPN College Gameday or the late night ABC game before Ole Miss’ loss Saturday.
Now, the Rebels are ranked no. 14 in the AP Poll and no. 13 Coaches’ Poll. They were being considered for the number one spot in the nation before losing to Florida. They play unranked New Mexico State this weekend before facing the Tigers.
The Tigers picked up the no. 25 spot in the Coaches’ Poll. This is the first time they have been ranked this season. They received 42 votes to get to 25, while Oregon, Mississippi State, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Duke all fell out.
However, Memphis did not make it into the top 25 in the AP Poll. They came in at no. 34 and only received only 19 votes. Their fellow American Athletic Conference opponents Houston and Temple finished above Memphis with 31 and 23 votes. Toledo and Boise State came in at 24 and 25.
The Blue and Gray have won 12 straight games dating back to last season and are 5-0 on the season. Their last loss came on Oct. 11, 2014 to the University of Houston.
The Tigers are currently on a bye week before they face-off with Ole Miss. Memphis student guest tickets for the game will go on sale Oct. 12 at the U of M ticket office in the Athletic Office Building.
Other notes
University of Memphis sophomore punter Nick Jacobs was named the American Athletic Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday following his performance in the Tigers’ 24-17 win over South Florida on Friday.
Jacobs is the second Memphis punter in the past two weeks to win the award (Spencer Smith being the other). He pinned the Bulls inside their own 20-yard line with all six of his punts in the Tigers win.
The Tigers will hope to avenge their 24-3 loss to Ole Miss in Oxford last season when they face off on Oct. 17.
