Rudd names new chief information officer

Robert Jackson has been named interim chief information officer of the University of Memphis. The former CIO Ellen Watson retired in December.

U of M President David Rudd announced in an email to students and faculty that Jackson began his new role Monday.

“As the University’s interim CIO, Robert will provide information technology leadership for the campus and the coordination of a campus-wide IT planning process to complement the institution’s strategic plan,” Rudd said in the email.

Jackson has worked for the U of M since 2001 and has served in various areas, including academic affairs technology and information technology services. He most recently acted as the assistant CIO.

“I also provide oversight of network services, data center operations, telecommunications, ITS Service Desk, enterprise infrastructure services, research computing, desktop support and enterprise application services,” Jackson said about his new position.

In his new role, Jackson will also supervise financial and budget tracking and help find solutions to problems that ITS users and staff encounter
