Campus crime report: More than $3,000 worth of cigarettes stolen from someone’s vehicle

1. Items stolen at Living Learning Complex

Officers responded to a burglary at the Living Learning Complex on Jan. 21, according to a police report filed by Officer Michael Means. The resident said she left her room for a short amount of time, and when she returned, her makeup bag was missing.

She told officers she locked the door and did not have any suspects in mind. A couple of weeks ago, the student reported a stolen $30 muscle roller.

2. Items stolen and car vandalized

Officers responded to a theft on Jan. 18 at the Central parking lot, according to a report filed by Officer John Hudgens. The victim’s vehicle’s rear window was damaged, and his high-definition display screens had been stolen from the headrests.

3. Student claims wallet stolen by roommate

A 19-year-old student reported a missing wallet from his room, located in Centennial Place, according to a police report filed by Officer Randy Phillips on Jan. 18. The resident said the last time he saw his wallet was the day his roommate was moving out, leading to his suspicion that his roommate may have stolen it.

This case is still under investigation.

4. Wallet stolen at the rec center

A 22-year-old student reported a wallet stolen Jan. 15, according to a police report filed by officer Anthony Daniels. The student said he placed his wallet in his red bag and put it in the rec’s storage area. After finishing his workout, he realized his wallet was missing, which contained personal identification, banking info and money.

He canceled his bank cards and student ID. 

5. Student claims speaker and vacuum cleaner stolen

Officers responded to a theft at the LLC on Jan. 13, according to a police report filed by Officer Chanancy Donaldson. The victim said she was in the process of moving out of her room for winter break and talking with friends, not realizing she left her door open.

She returned after winter break  Jan. 10 and discovered her JBL speaker and Black & Decker vacuum cleaner had been stolen. The victim said she does not have an idea of any possible suspects.

6. University employee followed in garage

A 45-year-old staff member said she was followed by another woman while parking her car inside the Zach Curlin parking garage, according to a police report filed by Officer Donaldson on Jan. 3. The victim said the suspect seemed upset because she was being pursued too closely, which prompted the suspect to threaten the victim before she left.

This case is still under investigation.

7. Items stolen from motor vehicle (not on map)

Officers responded to a burglary which occurred inside a vehicle located at the Community Health Building on the Park Avenue campus Jan. 10, according to a police report filed by Officer Claude Berry. The complainant said he was informed that two male suspects entered the trailer and stole four totes of cigarettes worth more than $3,000.

He informed officers he was not threatened or assaulted, and he did not see the suspects with any weapons. He reported he heard a vehicle drive away, but he was unable to provide its description or direction.

One of the suspects dropped his red Chicago Bulls baseball cap which has been confiscated by Police Services.
