Taylor Barnes, guard, is no longer listed on the UofM official roster for women’s basketball.

It is no secret the below .500 Memphis women’s basketball team is in complete disarray. Now, things seem to continue to spiral out of control as junior guard Taylor Barnes is no longer listed on the team’s roster on its official website.

In the midst of a losing season combined with a strong disconnect between players on the team and the head coach Melissa McFerrin, sources with direct knowledge of the situation told The Daily Helmsman Barnes decided to part ways with the Memphis Tigers.

Barnes was one of the team’s leaders. As of Feb. 8, she started in 20 of the 21 games played and averaged 9.8 points per game. Less than a week later, when the Tigers played Cincinnati, Barnes played for one minute. After the game, McFerrin downplayed the situation and said the junior guard was not injured and mentioned her lack of playing time was “team-related.â€

A source told the Helmsman there has been constant conflict between the players on the team and the coach. This dysfunction led to a team meeting earlier in the season, but things were still unresolved between Barnes and McFerrin.

It is worth noting Barnes is not the only person who is no longer listed on the roster. Kiana Coomber is not listed on the official website either. It is not clear if Coomber departed the team for similar reasons as Barnes.
