Memphis Baseball has begun their season and the team has not held back against their first few opponents.

The Tigers (4-0) are undefeated after their first four games and have outscored opponents 42 runs to 16. Memphis started the season with a win against Lipscomb and then followed that up with a series sweep against Grambling State.

After a strong showcase of talent, Memphis has entered a stretch of games against Ole Miss, Baylor and Vanderbilt. Regardless of their upcoming games, the Tigers have gotten out to a solid start.

A three-game series was set up with Northern Illinois, but it was never played due to wintry weather conditions. The opening weekend was pushed back for Memphis, but it officially started against Lipscomb University.

Game 1 of the Memphis Baseball season

The first game the Tigers played was on February 23 and it was 3-1 win over Lipscomb in Alabama. The game went scoreless for three full innings, then Memphis got on the board first in the fourth inning with a home run from from shortstop Ben Brooks. The Tigers built the lead later in the fourth with a two-run homer from third baseman Alec Trela.

When the bottom of the fifth began, Memphis led 3-0. That changed after Lipscomb scored a single run off an error and that was classified as unearned. The Bison cut it to 3-1, but couldn't produce for the remainder of the game. Memphis closed out the game and their season opener ended with a win.

Three days after their win over Lipscomb, the Tigers opened at FedEx Park for their home-opener. They started with a three-game series with the Grambling State University Tigers.

Grambling State did not go down easily. They managed to get a two-run home run and an RBI single at the top of the sixth which re-tied it at 6 runs each. Memphis answered with a five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth.

Memphis held their 11-6 lead up until the ninth inning. Grambling State scored three runs in the top of the ninth, making it an 11-9 game. However the Memphis Tigers closed it out and won 11-9, getting their first win at home.
