Campus crime report: Items stolen from campus students

1. Wallet stolen from backpack in University Center

Officers responded to a theft from a building at 505 Zach Curlin St. March 15, according to a crime report filed by Officer K. Straub.

The student told campus police she was in the Hispanic Student Association’s office, on the second floor of the UC at the University of Memphis at the time of the incident. She said she placed her backpack on the couch for an hour and when she returned, her backpack was still there, but her wallet was no longer in her backpack.

There is no suspect information at this time. 

2. Repeat trespasser found on campus

A UofM student at the Living Learning Complex was involved in a disturbance with a non-UofM student March 14, according to a crime report filed by Officer Laron Young.

The defendant was seen running through campus and found hiding within the Communication and Fine Arts building. He was apprehended by campus police who discovered he had also trespassed on campus in December 2018. The man was transported to 201 Poplar to ensure that the offense would not continue.

3. Two items missing from room in Echles

A theft from a building at 624 Echles St. was reported  March 12, according to a crime report filed by Officer Young.

The resident told officers her buffer and vacuum had been missing since Feb. 20. She told officers she is unsure if the items have been stolen or misplaced.  

4. Electronics and food stolen on Central Avenue

Officers responded to a burglary on March 10 at 3615 Central Ave.,   according to a crime report filed by Officer A. Daniels.

A student told police his friend told him his room door was open. The student said his friend checked to see if any of the student’s possessions were stolen. The student’s friend told him a video game console, video games and headset were missing from the room. The student filed a report with Police Services when he returned to campus. 

There is no suspect information at this time.

5. Car vandalized on Houston Street

Police were called to the site of a vandalized car March 12, according to a report filed by Officer R. Phillips.

The victim stated she parked her vehicle on Houston Street on March 11, and when she returned to her car, she noticed a large dent on the hood. It is unknown whether the someone sat on it or if it was struck by another vehicle.

There is no suspect information at this time.

6. Razor missing from Patterson apartment

A student reported his razor missing March 11, according to a crime report filed by Officer Phillips.

The student told officers he last saw the shaver March 1, but when he returned from Spring Break, the razor was missing.

There is no suspect information at this time.

7. Lamp and power strip stolen

Officer S. Grisham responded to a theft at 446 Patterson St. on March 10.

The student told police he locked his room door when he left for Spring Break. When the student returned to the house, he realized his lamp and power strip were missing from the room, despite the fact that his door was still locked.

There is no suspect information at this time.
