Dozens of University of Memphis students gathered around Clement Hall Friday at approximately 11:30 a.m., recording video and taking pictures of a man allegedly giving a speech about quantifying love, according to eyewitnesses. Police took him to psychiatric services on campus shortly after.

"He was saying he wants to be able to be in awe of science and love without being high on anything," Charles Bettendorff, freshman journalism major, said.

Bettendorff said when police arrived, the man got on his knees and walked willfully to the police car. He said he did not hear police read the man his Miranda rights.

"It went from a group listening to what he was saying to people saying, 'look at the crazy guy'. Let's take video and photos," Bettendorff said.

An officer on the scene said the man was not being arrested, but escorted to psychiatric services on campus to, "make sure he's OK." The officer said the man is not facing any criminal charges.
