New Christian group for U of M

The University of Memphis has a new Christian organization on campus. Cross Generation Collegiate Ministries, or CROSS G on Campus, is affiliated with the World Overcomers Outreach Ministries Church.

“CROSS” is an acronym for Christian Raising Our Spiritual Standards.

The group has several goals for its first semester on campus.

“Our goal is to reach saved and unsaved students on campus to give them an alternative environment which can help them realize the plan God has for their life,” said Jada Greer. Greer is the treasurer of the group and a junior majoring in education.

In its mission statement, CROSS G stated it wants to “bring about an impact upon the life of the Christian believer” at the university. They plan to do this by “generating a renewed spirit of enthusiasm and excitement towards the gospel message of Jesus Christ and the ‘Cross.’” The group also wants to move Christian students on campus into “new dimensions of understanding, perceptions, faith and partnership with our Lord Jesus Christ.”

CROSS G does not identify itself with any one denomination. They consider themselves non-denominational an open to anyone interested in pursuing the teachings of Jesus Christ.

“We don’t discriminate,” Greer said. “Everybody needs salvation.”

The group also wants to intermingle with other Christian organizations on campus.

“Christians can and do have fun in a wholesome manner,” said Derek Richard, president of CROSS G.

CROSS G will have its first meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the University Center, room 404.

The first bible study will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m. in the same place.

The group will also be hosting a back to school celebration on Friday, Sept. 20 at the Shabach Christian Fellowship Center, 2124 E. Holmes Rd., at 8 p.m.
