Regents OK compensation plan

The Tennessee Board of Regents approved a plan Monday that will compensate furloughed state employees for lost work time without taking vacation days.

According to TBR director of communications Mary Morgan, this month’s three-day work stoppage — which was caused by Tennessee’s budget crisis — will be treated as paid leave.

Morgan said the time off could not be considered a vacation because furloughed employees were still on call and would’ve been asked to return to work had the budget crisis been solved.
