UPDATE: Ludacris will perform at U of M Homecoming

UPDATE: 'LUDA' to take Jeremih's place

Rapper Ludacris, best known for songs like Splash Waterfalls and What's Your Fantasy, will take take the place of Jeremih at the U of M's homecoming.

Student Activity Council tweeted the news Thursday night, but would not comment on the event any further.

"Ludacris will be performing as well at this year's Bluff City Bash!" is all a tweet from the official SAC account said.

It is unknown what songs Ludacris, who also stared in 2 Fast 2 Furious, will play.

With less than 24 hours till show time, it is also unknown how SAC was able to get 'Luda' to agree to play. SAC shared the news just before 8 pm Thursday, but the concert is scheduled for 7 pm Friday.

Within minutes of sharing the news, students began to express joy on Twitter.

Rapper Jeremih Felton, of the hit song “Birthday Sex,” will not be performing at the University of Memphis Homecoming Friday.

The Student Activity Council broke the news via Twitter Wednesday.

“Due to extraneous circumstances, @Jeremih will not be preforming at the BCB. Be on the lookout for more info! #ROAR15,” SAC said in the tweet, which included a photo of rapper B.O.B who is still scheduled to perform Friday.

The council learned about the cancelation “earlier this week” said Shelby Elkins. Elkins, vice president of SAC. However, he said it was best not to spill the news about Jeremih’s cancelation immediately.

“It is way better for people to hear we might have a replacement act than just automatically say he canceled,” Elkins said.

At the same time, SAC wanted to tell students in a timely way, so they wouldn’t be disappointed when they came to homecoming, he said.

“We want to create an experience that all students can enjoy,” Elkins said. “We are working hard to make sure all students are taken care of.”

Jeremih’s agent informed the U of M he would not be performing. Elkins said this is not a big deal, and no other artist has canceled for the homecomingconcert.
“I’m sad, I wish he was coming.” Said Teryn Williams, sopho- more business major. “That’s very surprising.”
