The Memphis Tigers (1-1) will attempt to redeem their close loss in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when they take on the Yale Bulldogs (1-0) at home. The Tigers kept the game close with Louisiana State University (3-0) but fell short in the final minutes, 76-85.

Yale will play Memphis after defeating the California Golden Bears (0-1) in the Pac-12 China Game, 76-59. Having played around the world, the Bulldogs will hope to be adjusted to the time difference before the game at Memphis.

Memphis will host Yale at 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at FedEx Forum. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.

The Bulldogs’ best player in their win over California came off the bench. Guard Azar Swain connected on five for nine from the field and four for seven from downtown for a team-high 16 points.

Swain led Yale with four assists and was second on the team with six rebounds, behind 6-foot-9 junior forward Jordan Bruner. Bruner knows how to battle for boards, as he led the team with eight rebounds while also totaling nine points.

Another player the Tigers should look out for is guard Miye Oni. Oni also scored a team-high 16 points, knocking down four of his eight field goals and three of his five shooting attempts from the three-point line.

Guard Jeremiah Martin had a solid performance against LSU, totaling 15 points, four rebounds and three assists. However, Martin struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on one of seven attempts, and will be hard-pressed to improve against a Yale team that allowed just two three-point shots against California.

Guard Kareem Brewton currently leads the Tigers with seven steals so far in the season. The Bulldogs committed 19 turnovers in their first game, if they continue to be loose with the ball, Brewton could be in for another solid defensive performance and give the Tigers more shot opportunities.

Forward Kyvon Davenport did not have the best night against LSU but was able to draw a lot of fouls and help put Memphis on the free-throw line. Davenport could look to create more trips to the charit stripe against Yale, as the Bulldogs finished with 29 personal fouls, and three players had four fouls apiece.

Rebounding

Two games into the season, and the Tigers have yet to win the rebound margin in a game. Memphis struggled against Tennessee Tech but was more competitive against LSU, as they only lost the rebound battle by five.

A large part of the increase in rebounds secured was due to the return of 6-foot-10 forward Mike Parks. Parks led the Tigers with six boards against LSU and allowed Memphis to stay competitive against an LSU team that is proficient at giving their players more shot attempts.

The Tigers will be put to the test against the Bulldogs, as Yale totaled 36 rebounds with three players securing five or more boards. Parks will be key in helping Memphis win their first rebound margin of the season.

Expectations

The Tigers should have their way defensively against a turnover-prone team like Yale, which should lead to more shot opportunities for Memphis. Offensively the Tigers should draw a lot of fouls when they’re going for the basket and get to the free-throw line early, leading Memphis to their second win of the season.
