1. Assault in Centennial Place

Officers responded to a walk-in complaint, stemming from an assault that occurred at Centennial Place on the University of Memphis campus Feb. 12, according to a police report filed by Officer Chanancy Donaldson.

A female student told police she got into an argument with her boyfriend, which resulted in her boyfriend throwing her on the bed and choking her for two to three seconds. The victim’s boyfriend also threw an umbrella at her nose.

After filing the report, Donaldson escorted the victim back to her room, where her boyfriend was also located. Shortly after, the victim’s boyfriend was taken into custody and arrested.

The suspect was previously banned from all UofM residences and dorms Jan. 10, so officers charged him with aggravated assault and criminal trespass.

2. Items stolen from vehicle

Officers responded to a theft at the Holiday Inn lot Feb. 11, according to a police report filed by Officer Britany Dorado.

The victim’s car was in good condition at 1:30 p.m. that day, but about two hours later the victim received a call from a Holiday Inn employee who notified him that his car was broken into.

The victim’s front passenger window was broken, and the center console and glove box were open and his pocketknife, $5, Memphis map and vehicle registration were stolen.

A blue pillowcase with white stains was found at the scene and obtained by police.

There are no known suspects at the time.

3. Victim gets choked by ex-boyfriend

Officers responded to a walk-in complaint at Police Services about an assault that occurred Feb. 7, according to a police report filed by Officer Stephen Grisham.

The victim told the officer she attempted to end a relationship with her boyfriend earlier that day. She said the suspect became angry and pushed her down and choked her.

4. Theft on Patterson Street

Officers responded to a theft Feb. 3 at 592 Patterson St., according to a police report filed by Officer Randy Phillips. The victim told officers he parked his car on the street and noticed it had been broken into hours later.

The victim told officers his radio was missing, and it appeared someone tried to pry the driver’s side door lock open.

5. Passport reported stolen

A 24-year-old student reported a missing passport Feb. 3, according to a police report filed by Officer Donaldson.

The student told officers he lost his passport Jan. 30.

He informed officers he was at four different locations during the day and waited to report it because he was trying to find it.

6. An argument turns violent

A 19-year-old student reported a small assault that occurred Jan. 30 in the Centennial Place, according to a police report filed by Officer Laron Young. The victim told officers the suspect knocked on his door and confronted him about a female student.

The two men got into an argument, which caused the defendant to verbally threaten the student. The victim said he exited the room, and the defendant followed him, grabbed his key and threw it down the hallway.

The victim’s roommate opened the door for him, and the defendant followed him. The defendant pushed the victim and punched him in his left eye.

The victim did not want to be medically treated but said he plans to press charges against the defendant.

7. Theft from a motor vehicle

A male student reported a theft from his vehicle Jan. 29 at the Conlee lot on the 3700 block of Poplar, according to a police report filed by Officer Michael Means.

The victim’s car door handle was broken, the alarm was disabled and stereo and amplifier were stolen.

There are no suspects at this time.

8. Items stolen from University golf cart

Officers responded to a report of a missing battery from a University golf cart Jan. 24, according to Officer Kevin Langeller. The complainant told officers he parked the cart on the east side of Wilder Tower while he worked inside the building.

While exiting the building, the complainant said he saw a man looking through the cart and noticed the suspect had a drill battery. The complainant said the suspect told him he was looking for something to remove a nail from a tire.

The complainant told officers the drill and a small flashlight were also missing, and the suspect left westbound through Wilder Tower.
