St. Anne’s Church was the original planned location for the middle school before concerns over content restrictions arose. The location was originally chosen because of its close proximity to campus.

University Middle, the University of Memphis’s new middle school, adds another institution on the current list of primary education schools.

The University Middle will be located in the buildings of the former St. Anne Catholic School on the intersection of Highland Street and Spottswood Avenue (pictured above).

The University Middle Stearing Committe plans to present its proposal for the middle school of the Shelby County Board for formal approval Jan. 29. They hope to start classes for the Fall 2019 semester.

The University of Memphis is currently responsible for two primary education schools: the Barbara K. Lipman Early Childhood School and Campus School.

The new junior high school will physically extend the main campus and reinforce existing efforts to enhance the southern side of the University. Applications for Fall 2019 for University Middle are open until Jan. 20.
