The University of Memphis athletic department released the 2012 Memphis football schedule yesterday.
Memphis will kick off the season with four consecutive nonconference opponents, three of which also played against the Tigers last season. A home game against UT-Martin on Sept. 1 will get the season started, before traveling to Jonesboro, Ark. for the second year in a row to take on Arkansas State on Sept. 8.
Memphis will return home to host the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders on Sept. 15. They will then travel to Durham, N.C. to play the Duke Blue Devils on Sept. 22, the first time the two schools have met on the football field. Duke will come to Memphis in 2013.
The Tigers will begin Conference USA play at home for the second consecutive season, and just the fifth time since 1997, against Rice on Oct. 6. Following an away game at East Carolina on Oct. 13 and a home game against Central Florida on Oct. 20, the Tigers go on a two-game road trip, facing SMU on Oct. 27 and Marshall on Nov. 3.
This year's schedule is particularly noteworthy as it is the first year since 1934 that Memphis will not have consecutive home games. It will also be the first season in 63 years that Memphis will not play a Southeastern Conference opponent.
Memphis closes the year with games against Tulane on Nov. 10, away at UAB on Nov. 17 and Southern Miss on Nov. 24.
