Campus Crime Log: Thefts, marijuana and sexual battery

Vehicle broken into near Recreation Center

 

Campus police responded to a vehicle theft on Feb. 1, where a 21-year-old female victim was parked on the north side of the Recreation Center. When she arrived at her vehicle, she discovered the left rear window was broken out, according to a campus police report written by officer Emmon Fitchpatrick.

When officers arrived, they found broken glass on the ground, according to the report. The victim said items were missing from the vehicle.

 

Female groped in library

 

A 23-year-old woman said a 25-year-old man touched her leg and groped her before she was able to walk away from him, according to a campus police report written by officer Kelly Straub on Feb. 5. The victim made a “fondling walk-in complaint” to police services around 1 p.m., according to the report. At 7:19 p.m., an alert email was sent to all faculty, staff and students describing the suspect. The alert was cancelled just after 10 p.m. 

In a separate report written by officer Stephen Grisham, officers responded to a “fight call” later that day in the University Center. They determined this was the same suspect from the library. The suspect was arrested and charged with trespassing and sexual battery, according to the report.

 

Wallet stolen from Patterson Hall

 

A 19-year-old woman made a theft complaint to police services on Jan. 30 after her wallet went missing when she left Patterson Hall, according to a campus police report written by officer Robert Frans. The victim said she had her wallet in her backpack before going into Patterson Hall, according to the report.

 

Marijuana found in dorm room

 

An 18-year-old woman was caught with two small bags of marijuana in her dorm room at Rawls Hall on Jan. 17. Officers went into the student’s room to question her after getting a complaint about the odor from the dorm room, according to a campus police report written by officer Randy Phillips.

When officers entered the room, they found and confiscated the bags of marijuana, according to the report. The student was charged with a misdemeanor citation for possession.

 

Tires stolen from vehicles

 

Campus police responded to a theft report on Jan. 30 about a man with dreads who was seen stealing tires then leaving in a silver van, according to a campus police report written by officer Robert Frans. Officers found the vehicle, but the 18-year-old female complainant left the scene because she was “scared to stay,” according to the report.

Officers then found two different red Chevy Camaro cars both missing passenger side tires. The lug nuts from the vehicles were found and bagged, but no fingerprints were found at the scene, according to the report. 

 

Suspicious activity on Norriswood Avenue

 

Campus police officers responded to a prowler call on Feb. 5, according to a campus police report written by officer Kelly Straub. The 19-year-old female complainant said she saw two men appear to take something out of a parked vehicle.

Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle, who said nothing was missing from his vehicle. Officers did not find any fingerprints, according to the report.
