1. Boyfriend and girlfriend get into a physical altercation
A student notified campus police that an 18-year-old student and her boyfriend were having an argument that escalated into a physical altercation, according to a campus police report written by Officer Claude Berry. Witnesses reported that they saw both individuals punch one another. Both students were taken into custody and to 201 Poplar, according to the report.
2. ‘Unknown student’ reports vandalism
An “unknown student” notified police of a suspicious person breaking the windows and slashing the tires of a blue Nissan with a knife, according to a report filed by officer Kelly Straub. In the report, the student described the suspect as heavy set with broad shoulders and wearing a white t-shirt. The 21-year-old student who owned the vehicle was notified. The report stated no suspects have been found.
3. More than $1,000 stolen from student
A 23-year-old student had her car broken into during class, $1,153 taken off her debit card and $20 stolen from her wallet, according to a report filed by officer Chanancy Donaldson. When the victim returned to her car after class, she saw her driver side door lock broken. The steering column was damaged and her glove compartment was raided, according to the report. Frans looked for finger prints and found a partial print in the vehicle. The victim called her bank to see where her card was used and also to cancel the card, according to the report. No suspects have been found.
4. Ex-friends harass student
A 20-year-old student made a harassment complaint when people made threats towards her after she notified them that they were no longer friends, according to a report filed by officer Randy Phillips. The victim said in the report that the last time the suspects were at her apartment was Feb. 26. The victim called security, and the suspects were banned from the complainant’s apartment complex, according to the report.
5. Three students shake vending machine open
An officer saw three male students shake a vending machine in Centennial Place, according to a police report filed by officer Rickey Moore. The officer stopped them, and they said the machine did not dispense their product. They said they shook it to get their product, and the door opened. They took two other products they did not buy, but they were returned, and the machine vendor was notified of the faulty latch, according to the report. The three students were sent to the Student Accountability Office.
6. Student has EarPod case stolen
A 23-year-old student left his EarPod charging case in either a storage slot inside the fitness studio room or on a machine in the cardio room at the recreation center, according to a report filed by officer Stephen Grisham. He noticed it was gone around 8 p.m. and could not find it, according to the report. No suspects have been found.
7. Boyfriend pours water on girlfriend
A 20-year-old student had a pitcher of water poured on her head after a verbal altercation with her boyfriend, who is a not a student, according to a police report written by officer John Hudgens. This was after the victim told her boyfriend to leave, and he got angry and poured the water on her. He fled afterwards, according to the report. The victim also refused transport and signed a Domestic Violence Hold Harmless Agreement, which is when a victim of domestic violence agrees to hold the other person free from the responsibility for any damage or liability that could happen from the incident. The suspect left a video game controller and his work identification. Both were tagged at the University of Memphis Police Department, according to the crime report.
